Recap of Episodes 1-2 of Season 2: “And Just Like That”

In the second episode, Carrie finds herself in a situation where she has to avoid discussing her vagina on her podcast, which is running an ad for vaginal suppositories. It turns out that the podcast company she works for is facing financial difficulties, leading to the closure of the studio and the cancellation of her show. This resonated with me as media companies often struggle and have to let go of their staff. I’m now really curious to see what Carrie’s next move will be, and I’m particularly interested in knowing how much she was earning as a podcast host. Given her reputation and previous freelance work at Vogue, where she earned $4 per word, it’s possible that she drained the podcast company’s funds. It’s amusing to see that her payment went up to $4.50 towards the end of the episode. Every time I watch that scene, I can’t help but chuckle.

Erin, I was just about to comment on how relatable this storyline was, but only to a certain extent. Scenes of media layoffs in shows like “Succession” always send a shiver down my spine. However, in this case, it felt forced. It’s hard to believe that an entire podcast studio would shut down simply because Carrie didn’t want to read an ad she was uncomfortable with. Nonetheless, I have faith that Carrie will be just fine. My sympathies go out to the rest of the podcast company’s staff, who, like many journalists in the real world, are entering a difficult job market.

Personally, this storyline didn’t resonate with me. Are we really expected to believe that an entire podcast studio closed its doors because Carrie objected to the ad copy for a vaginal suppository? At first, I thought her objection stemmed from concerns about the products and their impact on vaginal health and hygiene. However, upon reflection, I realized it’s just Carrie being her usual self, avoiding discussions about vaginas altogether.
