TORONTO – Jonathan Aranda’s second-inning grand slam propelled the Tampa Bay Rays to a 12-8 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays in their regular season finale on Sunday.
Aranda had an exceptional performance, amassing three hits and driving in six runs for the Rays (99-63), who will join the Blue Jays (89-73) in the American League wild-card round starting on Tuesday.
The Blue Jays will travel to Minnesota to face off against the Twins, while the Rays will take on the Texas Rangers.
Tampa Bay displayed an impressive offensive onslaught with 16 hits, outperforming the home team.
The Rays overwhelmed 31-year-old Toronto righty Wes Parsons (0-1), who was called up from Triple A-Buffalo to pitch Sunday’s contest.
Parsons, who last pitched in the Majors four years ago with the Colorado Rockies, endured a difficult outing, surrendering nine runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts and three walks in his 89-pitch performance spanning four innings.

The Rays sent 12 batters to the plate in the second inning, scoring seven runs on seven hits, with Aranda’s first career grand slam as the highlight.
Manuel Margot hit a solo home run off Parsons in the fourth inning, while Junior Caminero welcomed reliever Tim Mayza with a solo shot in the fifth.
