Rapper Lil Tay’s Instagram Claims Her Death at 15, Father Unwilling to Confirm

  • An announcement on Lil Tay’s Instagram page claims that the influential figure, who is only 15 years old, has passed away.
  • However, when approached by Insider, Lil Tay’s father did not verify the authenticity of the post.
  • Lil Tay’s former manager, also speaking to Insider, stated that he is aware of the news but cannot definitively confirm or dismiss it.

The internet sensation known as Lil Tay, whose actual name is Claire Hope, is reported to have passed away according to a statement on her verified Instagram account on Wednesday. However, her father and former manager have not confirmed whether this news is true or not.

The statement on Instagram described Lil Tay’s death as sudden, tragic, and completely unexpected. The post also mentioned the passing of Lil Tay’s brother, Jason Tian, which is currently under investigation.

“We are deeply saddened to share the devastating news of Claire’s sudden and tragic passing,” the message on Instagram expressed. “This outcome has shocked us all, as it was completely unexpected. The passing of her brother only adds to the unimaginable grief we are experiencing.”

The Instagram post requested privacy during this difficult time as investigations surrounding Claire and her brother’s death are still ongoing.

It is worth noting that Lil Tay’s brother, Jason Tian, has been in charge of her Instagram account and has used it to make baseless accusations against their father and fuel a contentious custody battle.

However, when contacted by Insider, Lil Tay’s father, Christopher Hope, declined to comment on the Instagram post and did not disclose whether his daughter is still alive.

Similarly, her former manager, Harry Tsang, stated that the situation requires careful consideration, and he cannot currently confirm or deny the news.

“Considering the complexities of the current circumstances, I cannot definitively confirm or dismiss the statement issued by the family,” Tsang said in an email to Insider on Wednesday. “Respecting the sensitivities involved, it is crucial to proceed with caution. My commitment remains focused on delivering reliable and appropriately timed updates.”

The Los Angeles Police Department and the county medical examiner have no records of an investigation into the death of someone named Claire Hope.

The Vancouver Police Department also confirmed that they have not received any reports of Lil Tay’s death or opened an investigation. Lil Tay grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Despite the confusion, news of Lil Tay’s alleged death quickly spread across the internet.

Lil Tay gained fame in 2017 for her confident and outspoken online persona, which included explicit monologues bragging about luxury homes, cars, and large sums of money. In 2018, she disappeared from the internet after a leaked video revealed someone directing her lines, rumored to be her brother.

Insider reported that a battle ensued over the future of Lil Tay’s career, with her manager (Tsang), father (Christopher Hope), and promoter (Chris Jones) on one side, and her mother (Angela Tian) and brother on the other.

In 2021, Lil Tay’s Instagram account became active again after years of inactivity, with posts allegedly from her brother accusing their father of physical and mental abuse, as well as stealing all of Lil Tay’s money. At the time, Christopher Hope denied these allegations and obtained a cease and desist order against Instagram.

Insider has reached out to Lil Tay’s mother, Angela Tian, for comment.
