Aug. 18 (UPI) — Services at a Wisconsin church were disrupted when a masked intruder, in the form of a raccoon, broke in and began ransacking the premises.
Ingrid Durr, a pastor at Chosen Generation Outreach Ministry in Milwaukee, arrived at the church to prepare for the evening services when she discovered signs of a break-in.
Surprised by the situation, Durr commented, “I said, ‘Oh, somebody must’ve thrown a brick in there or something,'” while speaking to WITI-TV.
Curiosity drove Durr to review the security camera footage on her phone, which led her to quickly identify the culprit – a raccoon.
Undeterred, Durr sought assistance from neighbors to remove the furry intruder. However, the raccoon had already caused damage to the ceiling and made a mess of Durr’s office.
As a result of the incident, Thursday night’s services had to be canceled to clean up the church. Additionally, a crew was called to ensure that no other raccoons were still inside the building.
Raccoon encounters in unusual places are not uncommon, as these animals often search for food and shelter. Recent incidents include a raccoon falling through the ceiling into the press box at a soccer field in Utah and another raccoon appearing on the baggage carousel at Philadelphia International Airport.
