Quick Q&A with Dana Perino

Have you ever wondered what our favorite Fox personalities are like off-camera? We’ve been checking in with them to learn more about who they are behind the scenes. This week, we’re excited to shine the spotlight on Jimmy Failla, the host of “Fox Across America” on Fox News Radio. Stay tuned each week for new editions of “Short Questions with Dana Perino.”

Q: What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?
JF: Aside from previously being a taxi cab driver, people would be surprised to learn that I’m a really good trumpet player. I played in the All County Band in elementary and middle school, but quit before high school to pursue my true passion of beer. However, if you handed me a trumpet today, I could still play it.

Q: What is your favorite Halloween costume you ever had?
JF: My favorite Halloween costume was when I dressed up as Superman in third grade. Although I was a chubby kid and the spandex costume wasn’t the best look on me, I absolutely loved it. People would jokingly say, “Up, up, and how much do you weigh?” instead of “Up, up, and away.”

Q: What is your secret party trick?
JF: My secret party trick is leaving undetected. I love to practice the “Irish goodbye” and leave at the highest point of the revelry. It becomes its own joke the next day, and nobody is ever mad about it because you went out on a high note.

Q: Who are your biggest role models?
JF: My biggest role models are my older siblings, who are cops and work in banking. They all had good grades and killer work ethics. We used to talk a lot of smack at our kitchen table, but looking back, I realize that I’ve inherited their work ethic and combined it with more talent.

Q: What’s your favorite thing about the work you do?
JF: My favorite thing about working in TV and radio is the ability to inject laughter into the lives of many people. No matter what profession you’re in, we are all in the fun business. When you reflect on your life, you’re not going to wish you fought more on social media or worked more shifts. You’re going to wish you had more fun. It’s cool that Fox has given me the platform to spread this message to a broad audience.

Q: What song instantly puts you in a good mood?
JF: My song choices change constantly because I tend to obsessively listen to a song until I hate it. Currently, I’m hooked on “I Can’t Stand Myself (When You Touch Me)” by James Brown. Before that, I played “Mr. Breeze” by Lynyrd Skynyrd on repeat for an entire month.

Q: What do you like doing in your spare time?
JF: When I’m not working, I enjoy hosting cigar smoking sessions in my backyard. I invite friends over, play music, and engage in deep conversations about the creative process and our respective professions. It’s my absolute favorite thing. I also love cruising in my Bronco with my family, driving aimlessly and blasting music.

Q: Which fictional character would be the most exciting to meet in real life?
JF: As a former cab driver, I once dreamt of having Cinderella in the back of my taxi, with only six minutes to get her home. It would be exciting to see if I could pull it off in real life. Trust me, Cinderella wouldn’t even make the top 25 oddest things I’ve encountered in a taxi.

Q: Did you ever get detention in school?
JF: In 9th grade, I got detention for talking too much in class and ended up getting “in-school suspension” for talking too much during that detention. I could go on for days about this…

Q: What would be your last meal?
JF: For my last meal, I would go with the most gluttonous thing we serve in my house – a “steak and spaghetti.” My son and I love frying porterhouse steaks in butter, topping them off with spaghetti and tater tot medallions. It may sound excessive, but it’s the kind of meal that leaves you in a bloated state of self-disgust that would make you happy to see a firing squad.
