QAnon Shaman Considering Congressional Run as Libertarian after Capitol Attack

Jacob Chansley, also known as the “QAnon shaman,” has made headlines once again. This time, he’s filed paperwork with the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office indicating his desire to run as a Libertarian in the 2024 general election. But that’s not all. Chansley, who was previously sentenced to 41 months in prison for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol, now wants to represent Arizona’s 8th District in Congress.

On that fateful day, Chansley boldly marched into the U.S. Senate chambers, leaving behind a note that read, “It’s only a matter of time. Justice is coming!” His distinct appearance has made him a universal reference point, appearing in comedy sketches and political cartoons.

Interestingly, Chansley, who is also known as Jacob Angeli, has used Angeli-Chansley as his name on state paperwork. He was released to a halfway house in March and is now setting his sights on entering a crowded congressional race to replace Rep. Debbie Lesko, who has decided not to run again. Other Republicans in the race include Ben Toma, Blake Masters, Abe Hamadeh, state Sen. Anthony Kern, and others.

Despite being convicted of a felony, Chansley is undeterred, as he sets his sights on federal office, aiming to secure the coveted seat for Arizona’s 8th District.
