Amid the General Managers’ Meetings in Scottsdale, Ariz., New York Yankees GM Brian Cashman passionately defended the team’s decision-making process and personnel, insisting that they are “pretty f—ing good” despite the backlash following the team’s 82-win season.

The 2023 season marked an unexpected low for the Yankees, prompting widespread calls for the firing of Cashman and manager Aaron Boone, whose team failed to make the playoffs for the first time in seven years. Cashman acknowledged the disappointment and vowed to make 2024 a better year.

To overcome the challenges posed by a competitive American League East, Cashman emphasized the need to bolster the team’s pitching and acquire left-handed outfielders, as well as addressing an “infield surplus”.

Despite the criticism, Cashman stood by the team’s due diligence in trades that didn’t pan out, attributing the failures to on-field results rather than the processes leading up to them. He also refuted claims that the Yankees are overly reliant on analytics, stating that the organization has a balanced approach that includes a strong pro-scouting department.

As Cashman addressed the media for the first time since August, he remained steadfast in his defense of the team and expressed a determination to move past the disappointing 2023 season.
