Pro Football Hall of Famer Bob Brown dies at the age of 81

Legendary offensive tackle, Bob Brown, passed away at the age of 81 on Friday night in Oakland, California, announced by the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday. Brown’s wife, Cecelia, revealed that he died surrounded by loved ones at a rehabilitation center, where he had been receiving treatment following a stroke in April. Notably referred to as “the Boomer,” Brown was a six-time Pro Bowler and a five-time All-Pro. The Pro Football Hall of Fame described him as a fiercely competitive player. In a statement, President Jim Porter expressed, “Bob Brown displayed different personas both on and off the field. On the field, he was an intimidating opponent, using a wide range of tactics and techniques, and sometimes sheer force, to overpower his adversaries. He took immense pride in his ability to dominate.” Porter also added, “Off the field, however, he demonstrated a quiet, gentle, and compassionate nature that his son, Robert Jr., beautifully portrayed when he presented his father’s induction in 2004. Our thoughts and condolences go out to CeeCee and Robert Jr. during this difficult time.” Brown initially played as a guard at the University of Nebraska, earning himself the title of All-American. In 1972, he became the Raiders’ offensive tackle. Following his successful college career, Brown was drafted by the Eagles as the second overall pick in the 1964 draft. Although he was also selected in the American Football League’s draft by the Broncos that same year, he ultimately decided to join the NFL’s Eagles and played with them for five seasons. Brown then played for the Rams for two seasons before spending his final three years with the Raiders. In 1993, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, and in 2004, he was honored as a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. To pay tribute, the Pro Football Hall of Fame will lower the flag to half-staff in memory of Bob Brown and his legendary career.
