Authorities report that a convicted murderer who escaped from a Pennsylvania prison on Thursday may be heading south towards Mexico.

Danelo Cavalcante, 34, broke out of Chester County Prison, located approximately 30 miles west of Philadelphia, at around 8:50 a.m. The Chester County District Attorney’s Office, led by Deb Ryan, describes Cavalcante as an “extremely dangerous man.”

Cavalcante was last seen at around 9:40 a.m. walking along a nearby road in Pocopson Township. He was wearing a white T-shirt, gray shorts, and white sneakers.

Law enforcement believes Cavalcante, a Brazilian national, is likely headed south towards Mexico and then back to Brazil. This information was shared by Deb Ryan during a press conference on Friday.

Recently, Cavalcante was convicted of first-degree murder for killing his former girlfriend in 2021. He received a life sentence without parole just last week.

“When he murdered Deborah Brandao in 2021, he initially tried to flee to Brazil,” stated Ryan during the press conference. “Although he was captured in Virginia, his ultimate goal was to escape to Mexico and then return to Brazil.”

Additionally, Cavalcante is wanted for a 2017 homicide case in Brazil, which prompted him to flee the country. This information was provided by Robert Clark, a supervisory deputy with the US Marshals Service.

Clark emphasized Cavalcante’s dangerous nature during the news conference. He acknowledged the dedicated efforts of state police, the US Marshals Service, and other local partners in apprehending Cavalcante.

The US Marshals Service has informed Brazilian authorities about Cavalcante’s escape, ensuring cooperative efforts in his capture.

The district attorney’s office has increased the award money to $10,000 for any information leading to the capture of Cavalcante. This reward is jointly offered by the Chester County Commissioners and the US Marshals Service, as stated in an update posted on Facebook.

Speaking to CNN’s Laura Coates on “CNN Tonight,” Ryan shared, “Cavalcante is really good at evading law enforcement, and we believe he will stop at nothing to try and escape capture.”

“We currently have hundreds of personnel on the ground and in the air actively searching for him,” Ryan added.

Authorities are also investigating whether Cavalcante received assistance from the inside to facilitate his escape, according to Ryan.

“Detectives from my office are conducting interviews to determine what transpired,” added Ryan.

Ryan urged the public to immediately call 911 if they have any information regarding Cavalcante’s whereabouts.
