Principal’s Shocking Act: Teen’s Bare Breast Turned into Viral Meme, Lawsuit Alleges

A teenager from Delaware is suing her former high school, alleging that staff members shared a surveillance video of her exposed breast and created a meme about it. Aniya Harmon filed a lawsuit against the Indian River School District, Sussex Central High School, acting principal Bradley Layfield, and assistant principal Matthew Jones, claiming that they invaded her privacy. The incident occurred in May when Harmon was an 18-year-old senior.

The lawsuit states that Layfield showed the surveillance video to staff members, in which Harmon’s clothes came apart during an altercation where a school employee pulled her away from another student. According to the lawsuit, Jones then used a screenshot from the video to create a meme that included singer Janet Jackson, who famously experienced a wardrobe malfunction during the 2004 Super Bowl.

An attorney for Layfield denied any involvement in creating the meme and stated that Layfield shared the video with staff members to promote safety. It is unclear if Jones has legal representation, as he did not respond to a request for comment.

According to the lawsuit, the incident occurred when Harmon became involved in a verbal argument between two students. Harmon told the female student to quiet down, which resulted in the female student yelling and threatening her. During the altercation, a staff member tried to intervene by pulling at Harmon’s jacket, causing her clothes to come apart and exposing her breast.

Harmon’s attorney, Emeka Igwe, disputed the claim that the incident had racial overtones, stating that the only racial aspect was that Harmon is African American and the other student involved was Caucasian.

The lawsuit alleges that Harmon was unaware of the meme until rumors began circulating when she returned to school. Her mother confirmed the existence of the meme during a meeting with the Delaware Department of Justice. Harmon and her family are requesting a criminal investigation into the matter.

Layfield and Jones have been placed on administrative leave, according to the lawsuit. The Indian River School District declined to comment on the pending litigation.

Harmon expressed her anger and disappointment over the incident, stating that it has had a negative impact on her social life. She and her mother do not want the accused staff members to work with children or in any other school district.
