Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Have Ended Their Spotify Partnership

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have ended their partnership with Spotify. As part of a $20 million deal, Markle hosted the Archetypes podcast on the streaming service. However, it has been reported by Deadline that the podcast will not be renewed for a second season. Both Spotify and Archewell Audio have released a joint statement expressing their pride in the series they created together. Sources suggest that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are reevaluating their deals and seeking better platforms and partnerships for their content. It is possible that Archetypes may be relaunched elsewhere. The Wall Street Journal reports that this podcast was the only one produced under the Spotify deal, and according to their sources, Harry and Meghan will not receive their full payout due to not meeting “productivity benchmarks.”

According to the Journal, the cancellation of the series reflects the ongoing challenges in the podcast market. While podcasts are popular among listeners, they are difficult for streaming services to monetize. Despite an increase in monthly users, Spotify has experienced significant revenue losses and has had to lay off a substantial number of employees this year. The company has also announced a new approach to podcasting, which includes making shows available on platforms outside of Spotify and focusing on providing tools for podcast creators rather than producing original content. Markle’s talent agency states that she is working on developing more content for the Archetypes audience on another platform. (Read more Prince Harry stories.)
