Prince Harry, along with other prominent figures like Elton John and Elizabeth Hurley, will have their case against the Daily Mail, Mail on Sunday, and MailOnline go to trial following a ruling on Friday. This high-profile case involves allegations of breach of privacy and “unlawful information gathering” such as the placement of listening devices in their cars and homes, the surreptitious recording of private telephone calls, and obtaining information by deception.

Associated Newspapers, the publisher of the aforementioned publications, called the allegations “preposterous smears” and sought to have the case thrown out, only to be overruled by Justice Nicklin who stated that each claimant has a “real prospect” of demonstrating the concealment of unlawful information gathering by the newspapers. This is not the first legal battle for Prince Harry, who was previously in court pursuing a separate case against the publishers of the Daily Mirror and Sunday Mirror. That case is still ongoing, while he is also involved in a third action involving the publishers of The Sun newspaper.

In a statement issued following the ruling, Prince Harry and his co-claimants expressed their delight at the decision and emphasized their intention to uncover the truth and hold Associated Newspapers fully accountable for the “deplorable and illegal activities” that took place over many years. The judge’s ruling paves the way for the case to proceed to trial at a later date, with another preliminary hearing scheduled on November 21.
