WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden revealed on Thursday that 74 Americans have successfully been evacuated from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Stripin the first wave of evacuations.
Biden expressed his satisfaction with this progress, sharing the number with reporters before a bilateral meeting with President Luis Abinader of the Dominican Republic in the Oval Office.
John Kirby, a White House spokesman on national security, stated that these evacuations were in addition to the five Americans who left Gaza on Wednesday, taking the total number of evacuees to 79. Kirby also mentioned that these individuals exited Gaza through the Egyptian border.
These evacuations follow Biden’s announcement on Wednesday that the U.S. had successfully arranged for wounded Palestinians and foreign nationals to leave the war-torn Gaza Strip, which he attributed to “intense and urgent American diplomacy with our partners in the region.”
