Premarket Volatility: TSLA, AAPL, AZN Witness Significant Swings in Stock Activity

Tesla saw a nearly 7% surge in its stock after exceeding Wall Street’s expectations for second-quarter delivery and production numbers. The company experienced an 83% increase in deliveries compared to the previous year.

Electric vehicle stocks also experienced gains after Tesla’s strong second-quarter numbers. U.S.-listed shares of Nio and Xpeng rose approximately 5% and 7.8% respectively in premarket trading. Additionally, Rivian experienced a 3.2% gain, while Fisker and Lucid each gained over 2%.

Apple saw a slight decline of 0.4% in its stock following reports of plans to reduce production of the Vision Pro headset. Apple’s stock had closed above a $3 trillion market cap on Friday.

AstraZeneca experienced a 5.7% drop in premarket trading after announcing preliminary results from a phase three trial for a lung cancer treatment. Although the drug showed promise in comparison to a competitor in one aspect, AstraZeneca stated that the data for overall survival was inconclusive and not statistically significant. Nevertheless, the trial will continue.

United Airlines had a marginal increase in its stock despite being negatively affected by flight delays during the holiday weekend.
