  • The fight erupted after O’Donnell confronted Walters about her support for Donald Trump.
  • O’Donnell recalled, “It was a loud altercation that shocked everyone because no one had ever spoken to her like that.”

In a recent wide-ranging interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Rosie O’Donnell revealed details about a past argument she had with Barbara Walters.

According to O’Donnell, the altercation took place backstage at “The View” and was triggered by Walters’ support for Donald Trump, with whom O’Donnell was feuding publicly at the time.

O’Donnell recalled, “We had an argument in the makeup room that day. I expressed my surprise at not hearing from her during our feud, while she was maintaining communication with him. I questioned the authenticity of our friendship, Barbara. I thought we had something meaningful and different.”

According to O’Donnell, the argument escalated and drew attention from other staff members of “The View.”

“People were stunned because no one had dared to speak to her that way before. I made a comment about her daughter, which was inappropriate. She was hurt. And we had a live show in 20 minutes,” O’Donnell recalled, noting that the subsequent episode of the talk show was noticeably tense.

When pressed about the comment she made about Walters’ daughter, O’Donnell clarified it was “nothing terrible.”

“I simply meant that our relationship with our children is different. ‘I don’t know what kind of relationship you have with your child,'” revealed the comedian.

In the end, O’Donnell apologized to Walters multiple times after the incident, and they were able to move forward before Walters’ passing in 2022.

O’Donnell joined “The View” as one of the hosts in 2006, briefly left, and returned for a stint in 2014. Walters co-created the show, which debuted in 1997, and remained a part of it until her retirement in 2014.
