Powerful Coalition of Western Nations Releases Joint Statement: Emphasizing Israel’s Right to Self-Defense and Vital Commitment to Humanitarian Law

President Biden, along with fellow leaders from Western-allied countries, reaffirmed their support for Israel and its right to self-defense on Sunday while urging the nation to abide by international humanitarian law.

“Today, President Joseph R. Biden, Prime Minister Trudeau of Canada, of France, Chancellor of Germany, Prime Minister of Italy, and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak of the United Kingdom addressed the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict in a joint statement on Sunday.

While expressing their unwavering support for Israel’s right to defend itself against terrorism, the leaders emphasized the importance of upholding international humanitarian law, including the safeguarding of civilians.

The leaders also demanded the immediate release of remaining hostages. Additionally, they pledged to closely cooperate in assisting their nationals in the region, especially those seeking to leave Gaza.

Moreover, the leaders commended the release of two Americans who had been held captive by Hamas.

This statement follows Hamas’ terrorist attack on Israel two weeks ago, resulting in the deaths of 1,400 people. In response, Israel launched counterattacks in Gaza, a Hamas-controlled area, resulting in the loss of at least 4,385 lives and 13,561 injuries, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.

The leaders also celebrated the recent arrival of humanitarian convoys in Gaza, affirming their commitment to coordinate with regional partners to ensure continual and safe access to essential resources like food, water, medical care, and other forms of assistance for meeting humanitarian needs.

Furthermore, the group expressed their determination to maintain close diplomatic coordination in order to prevent further escalation, uphold stability, and actively work towards finding a political solution and lasting peace in the Middle East.
