The patient with the bacterial infection was notified to the health department by the healthcare provider. The department is concerned about possible exposure for over 500 children and staff members due to the increased risk for young children. The YMCA has taken steps to contact those who are at risk for both preventative and curative action. Clinics have been scheduled for the affected. A public health emergency may be declared by the department. This investigation is being called the largest of its kind in the Midwest. This bacterial infection cannot be spread through physical contact and is treatable.
