Potential Removal of Final Covid Restrictions in NSW to Aid Economic Recovery

NSW Prepares to Scrap Vaccine and Mask Mandates on Cruise Ships to Revive Economy

In a bid to revive the tourism economy, the NSW government is seeking to scrap vaccine and mask mandates on cruise ships.

Currently, these requirements remain in place across the eastern seaboard and in Western Australia, following a decision made at the national cabinet during the early stages of the pandemic.

With advice from health officials, NSW Premier Chris Minns is confident that the mandates can be rolled back safely.

The Australian Health Protection Principal Committee, consisting of federal and state chief health officers, is expected to make a decision soon, paving the way for NSW to officially remove the rules.

‘Frankly, a lot of those rules were seemingly arcane and not applied to any other part of life or business in Sydney,’ said Mr Minns.

‘Given these restrictions don’t apply to airports and other parts of the transport economy, they shouldn’t apply to cruise ships either.’

Mr Minns hopes that other states will quickly follow NSW’s lead, considering the multiple ports many cruise ships visit around the country.

‘I’m pretty hopeful the other states will come on board and join NSW in this change very soon,’ he stated.

The state aims to signal to international visitors that life is back to normal in NSW and encourage them to contribute to the economy through tourism.
