Possibly the Most Hilarious Race in the Country

Over the weekend, a track for live horse racing in suburban Seattle witnessed a prehistoric sight. More than 200 people, dressed in inflatable Tyrannosaurus rex dinosaur costumes, ran down the track. This event, known as the 2023 T-Rex World Championships at Emerald Downs, originally started as a team-building activity for a pest control company in 2017. On Sunday, the race concluded in a thrilling photo finish, with three competitors crossing the finish line together.

Ocean Kim, from Kailua, Hawaii, emerged as the winner of the 100-yard dash. After careful examination, officials determined that Kim hit the finish wire first, narrowly edging out the competition. According to KOMO, Kim is affiliated with Tri-Guard Pest Control, which had a total of 40 employees participating in the race. Colton Winegar, from Boise, Idaho, secured second place dressed as Deno the Dino, while Seth Hirschi, from Renton, took third place as Rex Ray Machine. The actual T. rex species roamed the Earth between 65 million and 67 million years ago. A recent study published in the scientific journal Science estimates that approximately 2.5 billion dinosaurs inhabited the planet. The popularity of Hollywood movies like the Jurassic Park franchise has contributed to the ongoing fascination with these carnivorous creatures.
