Possible presence of rocks prompts recall of Trader Joe’s falafel

Trader Joe’s has issued a recall for its pre-made falafel balls due to concerns that they may contain rocks. This marks the fourth item the store has pulled from its shelves in just one week. Customers from 34 states and Washington, DC are advised to dispose of any boxes of Trader Joe’s Fully Cooked Falafel, regardless of the time period in which they were purchased. The popular grocery chain has already destroyed all boxes of the chickpea bites that could potentially be contaminated with rocks, as per their supplier’s distribution. In a recall notice, the company urged customers to refrain from consuming any Fully Cooked Falafel they had bought or received as donations.

Trader Joe’s was alerted to the issue of pebbles in their products by a vendor, prompting their immediate recall. When questioned about the presence of rocks in the food boxes, the company acknowledged that there was a problem in their manufacturing processes. Their representative emphasized that Trader Joe’s prioritizes the safety of their products and does not wait for regulatory agencies to intervene before taking necessary actions. The company’s commitment to quality and safety is evident in their proactive approach to recalls.

This recall of the Fully Cooked Falafel comes on the heels of another recent recall by Trader Joe’s. Just one day prior, the company recalled numerous cases of broccoli cheddar soup because insects were found in the frozen broccoli florets. Additionally, last Friday, Trader Joe’s issued a recall for two of their signature cookies, the Almond Windmill Cookies and the Dark Chocolate Chunk and Almond Cookies, after being alerted to the potential presence of foreign materials by a supplier. The Almond Windmill and Dark Chocolate Chunk and Almond cookies were recalled earlier this week for the same contamination issue.

According to SafeFood360, the contamination of food products with stones or pebbles is more likely to occur during the harvest season, typically falling between July and November in the US. This type of contamination is particularly common in items that utilize raw materials from fields, such as nuts, fruits, and vegetables, as explained by the food safety company. In response to the recall, Trader Joe’s is offering a full refund to customers who have purchased the potentially contaminated items.
