Positive rehab progress keeps Aaron Judge return scenarios open for Yankees

Aaron Judge has relocated to the Yankees’ player development complex as he gets closer to returning from injury.

The current American League MVP participated in a simulated game on Tuesday at the Yankees’ complex in Tampa. During the game, he had more at-bats, played in the outfield, and ran the bases. This is another step forward in his recovery from a torn ligament in his right toe, which occurred on June 3.

Prior to this, Judge had been recovering with the Yankees. However, moving his rehabilitation process to Tampa allows him to face live pitching from the Yankees’ minor leaguers in a controlled environment, helping him build up his workload.

Judge will have another simulated game on Wednesday, facing off against Jonathan Loaisiga, who is also rehabbing. The outcome of this game will help determine Judge’s next steps.

The Yankees have not yet decided if Judge will require a rehab assignment before being activated off the injured list. It is possible that he will continue to participate in simulated games at the Yankees’ complex, testing his toe in game-like actions until both sides agree that he is ready to rejoin the roster.
