A new Gallup poll, released on the eve of Independence Day, reveals that confidence in the U.S. government is at an all-time low among the G7 nations. Only 31% of American adults have confidence in their government, a significant drop from the 56% recorded in 2006. Meanwhile, a staggering 69% of Americans express a lack of confidence in their government.
The United Kingdom closely follows the United States, with just 33% of British adults having confidence in their government.
Germany holds the highest level of confidence in its government among the G7 countries, with 61% of its citizens expressing confidence. Canada follows at 51%, while France, Japan, and Italy have confidence ratings of 46%, 43%, and 41% respectively.
According to Gallup, confidence in the U.S. government has sharply declined over the years. After President Biden took office in 2021, the confidence rating dropped from 46% to 40%. In 2022, it dropped further to 31%, reaching the lowest levels seen in 2013, 2016, and 2018.
These findings coincide with President Biden’s consistently low approval ratings, which have ranged between 42% and 46% over the past year, according to a recent Fox News poll.
Another Gallup poll, released last week, revealed that only 39% of U.S. adults expressed “extreme pride” in the country, just one percent higher than the record-low set in 2022.
It is clear that confidence and pride in the U.S. government and country are currently at a critical low point.
