  • A woman who had been missing for a week was found trapped in mud at a Massachusetts state park, according to law enforcement officials.

Authorities believe she may have been stuck there for at least three days.

Emma Tetewsky, 31, was rescued on Monday at 6 p.m. after hikers alerted 911 about a woman screaming for help in a swamp-like area at Borderland State Park, south of Boston.

Upon arrival, Easton police officers could hear Tetewsky’s cries but couldn’t see her. They had to navigate through thick brush and swamp, using all-terrain vehicles and wading 40 feet, before reaching her.

Tetewsky was found in a fetal position, stuck in knee-deep mud. Multiple attempts were made to free her, as reported by The Enterprise.

She suffered from dehydration, sunburn, and injuries to her upper body, according to the police.

When Tetewsky was found, she was conscious and alert. She was taken to the hospital to receive non-life-threatening treatment for her injuries, as stated by The New York Times.

At the time of her disappearance, Tetewsky did not have a cell phone and had a history of mental health struggles, NPR reported.

“We would like to extend our gratitude to all the agencies that collaborated with us,” said Stoughton Police Chief Donna M. McNamara.

“Without the public’s assistance and the valuable tips we received over the past five days, we wouldn’t have been able to locate her. This outcome is the best possible,” she added.

Tetewsky was reported missing when her family informed the police that they hadn’t seen her since Monday.

“This kind of story often ends tragically, and I didn’t have much hope at all. I thought she would have succumbed to the elements by now,” said Emma’s father, Avran Tetewsky, to WBZ.

“Being stuck in the mud for such a prolonged period was traumatic,” added her mother, Barbara Zinaman. “It’s truly miraculous that they found her.”
