Poilievre Urges Mendicino’s Resignation Due to Recent Bernardo Transfer Reports

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is demanding that Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino steps down from his role, following the revelation that his office had prior knowledge about Paul Bernardo’s transfer to a medium-security facility. According to CBC News, Mendicino’s office was informed by the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) as early as March 2nd, yet neglected to mention the transfer until after it happened on May 30th. Bernardo is a convicted rapist and serial killer currently serving a life sentence for murdering teenagers Kristen French and Leslie Mahaffy in the early 1990s. He and his then-wife Karla Homolka also killed Homolka’s younger sister, Tammy Homolka. News of the transfer sparked outrage, and Mendicino announced that the CSC would conduct a review into the matter, promising Canadians that their concerns would be addressed. However, Poilievre argued that Mendicino has been dishonest with the public too many times and called for his resignation. The CSC announced that it would complete its review within a few weeks.
