Metro buses on lines 70 and 258 were redirected in East Los Angeles Sunday to accommodate the 77th annual Mexican Independence Day Parade and Festival, as announced by officials from the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
Both routes intersect with the parade route.
The procession commenced at 10 a.m. at the crossroad of César Chávez and Mednik avenues.
The rerouting will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on César Chávez Avenue, between Mednik and Record avenues.
Motorists are advised to plan ahead or find alternative routes.
The parade is renowned as the longest-running and largest Mexican heritage parade in the nation.
Mark Consuelos, actor and co-host of TV’s “LIVE with Kelly and Mark,” has been chosen as this year’s grand marshal.
The theme revolves around “Empowering Latina Women In Our Community,” and the parade is being broadcasted and live-streamed on ABC7.
It is dedicated to the legacy of the late L.A. County Supervisor Gloria Molina, who passed away from cancer on May 14.
The parade will be followed by the Grand Festival on Mednik Avenue, situated between East César Chávez Avenue and First Street.
