Pittsburgh Penguins Bask in Halifax Bonhomie for NHL Pre-Season Match-Up!

The Pittsburgh Penguins and their superstar player, Sidney Crosby, are receiving a warm welcome in Halifax as they prepare for their pre-season game against the Ottawa Senators. The team’s official Twitter account posted pictures of the players, including Evgeni Malkin, enjoying a scavenger hunt on the Halifax waterfront as part of a team bonding exercise. They were also seen posing with the Alexander Keith statue outside the famous brewery. The Penguins players also took advantage of the golf course at Timberlea, which hosted the Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship in 2019. Ryan Graves, one of the team’s newest signings, selected the golf course, as he is originally from Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. The Penguins, including Crosby, arrived in Halifax on Friday evening and a video was posted showing Crosby’s excitement to be back in his hometown. Ahead of the pre-season game, hockey fans lined up outside the Cole Harbour Place to watch Crosby and his teammates practice. Young fans eagerly chanted his name and received high-fives from the three-time Stanley Cup champion. After practice, Crosby and the other players hosted a youth hockey clinic for local players. Crosby expressed his enthusiasm for returning to Halifax and hoped that his success story, along with other Nova Scotian hockey stars, would inspire the next generation of players from the area. Despite being an exhibition game, Crosby emphasized the competitiveness of the game, as players vie for permanent roster spots with the regular season approaching. The significance of playing at the Scotiabank Centre for Crosby goes back to his junior hockey days, as it is where he won his first championship with the Rimouski Oceanic. The pre-season game, known as the Nova Scotia Showdown, is already sold out and will be played in front of an estimated 11,000 fans.
