Josh Kruger, an acclaimed journalist in Philadelphia, dedicated his career to covering topics such as homelessness and LGBTQ+ issues, drawing from his personal experiences with homelessness and addiction. He previously served as Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney’s content and communications director for the Office of Homeless Services before returning to journalism in 2021.

“Josh Kruger was an advocate for marginalized individuals, especially those facing homelessness and addiction,” stated Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner in a released statement.

Krasner added, “As an openly queer writer who bravely shared his own journey of overcoming substance use disorder and homelessness, it was inspiring to see Josh join Mayor Kenney’s administration, amplifying the voices of the homeless through the Office of Homeless Services.”

Kruger’s impactful work, which shed light on his experiences as an HIV-positive gay man, reached wide audiences through publications such as The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Philadelphia Citizen, LGBTQ Nation, and Poz magazine.
