Pete Davidson, Comedian, Joins Diversion Program for Reckless Driving Charge

Stand-up comedian and former cast member of “Saturday Night Live,” Pete Davidson, has been granted entry into an 18-month diversion program after being charged with misdemeanor reckless driving in Beverly Hills. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office confirmed this news on Monday.

Davidson, who resides in New York, was initially set to appear in court for arraignment on Thursday, but a deal presented by the D.A.’s office last Wednesday allowed him to enter the diversion program instead.

As part of the program, Davidson will be required to fulfill duties at either the Medical Examiner’s Office or a hospital (preferably in New York). Additionally, he must attend 12 hours of traffic school, which can be completed in New York. Moreover, he must complete 50 hours of community service, also possible in New York, pay restitution, and adhere to all laws and regulations.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, Davidson’s legal representation has indicated that the community service will likely be fulfilled at the New York Fire Department. It is worth noting that Davidson’s father was a firefighter in the FDNY and tragically lost his life on September 11th.

TMZ has reported that if Davidson successfully meets all the requirements of the diversion program, this incident will not result in a criminal offense on his record.

The crash took place on March 4th near Rodeo Drive and Elevado Avenue at approximately 11 p.m. Thankfully, no one suffered any injuries. It was alleged that Davidson lost control of his Mercedes, collided with a fire hydrant, and ultimately crashed into the side of a house. Reports suggest that his girlfriend, actress Chase Sui Wonders, was in the car with him at the time.

In June, the District Attorney’s Office released a statement saying, “We believe that Mr. Davidson engaged in reckless driving, which ultimately resulted in his involvement in a serious collision into a home. Luckily, no one was seriously injured as a result of this collision. We know that reckless driving can have devastating consequences. In 2022, traffic fatalities in Los Angeles have reached the highest levels seen in 20 years. This is an alarming trend that we cannot ignore. As a result, it’s crucial that we take all allegations of reckless driving seriously and hold those responsible accountable.”
