Aug. 28 (UPI) — A quick-thinking park manager in Pennsylvania rescued a bear cub that was in a dangerous situation – its head trapped inside a plastic jug.

Sarah Lindgren, who manages Kettle Creek at Ole Bull State Park in Potter County, was headed to collect a friend’s dog when she noticed the distressed animal by the roadside.

Recognizing the bear’s predicament, Lindgren swiftly intervened, capturing the moment on video. She realized the young bear was at risk of drowning or being hit by a car.

“I don’t even know why I turned on the video at that moment, I just knew it wasn’t in the ideal spot and I thought it was either going to drown or get hit by a car,” Lindgren explained.

After a mere 10 seconds, Lindgren successfully removed the jug, potentially saving the bear’s life. She noted the cub was weak and dehydrated, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.

“I highly doubt that it would have survived another day without intervention. It was very weak and dehydrated,” Lindgren shared. “Not only that, but it was right along a paved road with a steep bank down to a stream. I would have to think that it would have drowned in the stream when the container filled up, been hit by a car, or died of dehydration within a day.”

After the rescue, the approximately 8-month-old bear cub found refuge in a nearby tree, giving it a chance to recover.
