Pence Reveals Trump Team’s Request to Reject Votes Completely

In a recent development, former President Donald Trump’s attorney, John Lauro, expressed his belief that former Vice President Mike Pence will be an invaluable witness for the defense in the ongoing federal case against Trump for his alleged attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Lauro claims that Pence’s testimony will dismantle any notion of criminal intent on Trump’s part.

The indictment against Trump includes four federal felony charges that revolve around his alleged efforts to invalidate valid votes in the 2020 presidential race and undermine the entire election process. The document outlines how Trump and his legal team exerted pressure on Pence to reject the certification of the results in the Senate on January 6, 2021, ultimately leading to Pence’s evacuation from the Senate chamber amid calls for his execution by members of the January 6 mob.

Besides the election case, Trump is also facing additional federal charges related to the retention of classified documents after leaving office in 2021. Additionally, Manhattan prosecutors have accused him of falsifying business records connected to hush money payments made to women who claimed to have had extramarital affairs with him.

Although Pence has not been officially summoned to testify in the election case, Lauro expressed his anticipation for the opportunity to cross-examine Pence, as he believes it will unequivocally establish that Trump genuinely believed the election irregularities had led to improper results.

During an interview on ABC’s “This Week,” Lauro stated, “I cannot wait until I have the opportunity to cross-examine Mr. Pence because what he will do is completely eliminate any doubt that Mr. Trump, President Trump, firmly believed that the election irregularities had led to inappropriate results.”

In response, Pence informed CBS’ “Face the Nation” that if he is called to testify, he will adhere to the law.

Lauro also revealed during an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” that Trump and his lawyers urged Pence to “pause the voting” to allow states sufficient time to conduct vote audits. However, Pence, in his CNN interview, clarified that this was not the whole story.

“Frankly, the day before January 6, if memory serves, they came back—his lawyers did—and said, ‘We want you to reject votes’ outright,” Pence explained. “They were asking me to overturn the election. I had no right to overturn the election.”

He further added, “I don’t know what was in [Trump’s] heart, I don’t know what his intentions were, but I do know what he and his lawyers asked me to do. And it’s what no vice president in American history had ever done before, and frankly what no vice president or any one person in Washington should ever do again.”
