Patrick Willis: 49ers Legend and 2024 Pro Football Hall of Fame Semifinalist

The Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2024 semifinalist round was announced Tuesday morning with former 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis among the top 25 modern-era candidates. This follows Willis advancing to the final 15 the past two years. He was a seven-time Pro Bowl player over an eight-year career, named a five-time first-team All-Pro, and a part of the NFL All-Decade team for the 2010s.

Two other former 49ers, running back Ricky Watters and wide receiver Anquan Boldin, have also advanced to the semifinalist round. First-time eligible candidates tight end Antonio Gates and defensive end Julius Peppers made the cut as well. To be eligible, an individual must not have participated as an active player for five consecutive seasons. Running back Tiki Barber, in his 12th year of eligibility, was the only other first-time semifinalist.

The selection committee will vote later to reduce the list of 25 to 15 finalists. A maximum of five modern-era candidates can be elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2024.

Aside from the modern-era candidates, coach/contributor Buddy Parker and seniors finalists Randy Gradishar, Steve McMichael, and Art Powell will also be considered.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2024 will be selected ahead of Super Bowl 58 in Las Vegas, with the class being announced live on the “NFL Honors” telecast scheduled to air Feb. 8.
