Passenger Rescued After Falling Overboard from 10th Deck of Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship

  • A passenger on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship fell overboard from the 10th deck of the liner.
  • The 42-year-old woman was miraculously saved after a dramatic, nearly hour-long rescue.
  • “The passenger was recovered alive and reported to be in good health,” the US Coast Guard said.

A passenger aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise ship plunged overboard from the 10th deck, but was remarkably rescued after an intense hour-long operation.

The incident occurred as the ship was enroute to Curaçao, leaving fellow passengers on the Mariner of the Seas vessel on edge until the 42-year-old woman was found and brought back on board.

According to the US Coast Guard, the passenger was recovered alive and in good health after falling into the water from the ship’s 10th deck.

After the incident, the woman was taken to the ship’s medical facility and later transferred to a hospital in Willemstad, Curaçao. However, there was no need for a medical evacuation from the ship.

The US Coast Guard is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the passenger going overboard. Watchstanders received a report from the ship’s crew about the successful rescue.

Fellow passengers on the cruise ship feared the worst as they witnessed the unfolding drama. “To go from thinking she wouldn’t be found to realizing she’s alive was a whirlwind,” said one passenger. The entire ship erupted in applause upon learning of the successful rescue.

Royal Caribbean promptly informed local authorities and initiated a search for the guest. They are providing assistance and support to the guest and her companions while respecting their privacy. Falling overboard on a cruise ship is usually a tragic event, but this incident ended on a positive note.

According to a report by the Cruise Lines International Association, between 2009 and 2019, there were 212 overboard incidents, and only 48 victims, or 28.2%, were successfully rescued.
