Parking charges soar to £30 for families visiting the seaside

Southend-on-Sea offers a range of car parks along the beachfront, with prices starting at £19.30 for a day’s parking at locations like Fairheads Green and Seaway.

An analysis was conducted on public and private car parks in ten seaside towns to determine the most expensive parking prices for an eight-hour stay on August 27, 2022, and compared them to the projected prices for August 28, 2023.

The projected prices were based on data from YourParkingSpace and Parkopedia, both car park booking portals, which tracked hourly rates.

It was found that the majority of car parks increase their rates to the full day’s fee after six hours.

Overall, prime parking spots in these towns have seen an average increase of 67% since 2022.

Some seaside destinations have already experienced significant price hikes for prime parking spots.

In Brighton, the most expensive parking space increased by only £1.95, reaching a cost of £33 last year.

Prior to last month, Brighton and Hove had planned to raise on-street parking charges, with some areas anticipating a jump from £1.40 to £5.60 per hour.

However, the council is now reconsidering the price changes following complaints from workers who argue that they cannot afford the higher rates.
