Panda Express Alerted About Potential Hepatitis A Exposure, Authorities Caution

Health officials in Los Angeles County are advising individuals who consumed food or drinks at a Panda Express restaurant in Lancaster between July 21 and Aug. 4 to get vaccinated against hepatitis A. This warning comes after a food handler at the restaurant, located at 44411 Valley Central Way, tested positive for the hepatitis A virus. Thankfully, no other cases have been reported so far.

Hepatitis A is a contagious liver infection caused by a virus. It can spread through close personal contact or by consuming contaminated food or water. Symptoms of acute hepatitis A can range from mild to severe and may include fever, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dark colored urine, and jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).

If you believe you may have been exposed, free hepatitis A vaccinations are available at the Antelope Valley Health Center on weekdays. Additionally, you can receive the vaccine at select local pharmacies or through your physician.

Prompt vaccination is crucial in preventing infection, although it may not be effective if administered too late. If you have previously received the hepatitis A vaccine or have had a past infection, getting vaccinated again is unnecessary.
