Palmdale Deputy Ambush: Urgent Search for Killer Unleashed

Manhunt Underway for Killer of Los Angeles County Deputy

A massive manhunt is currently underway for the perpetrator who ambushed and fatally shot a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy. The third-generation officer, Ryan Clinkunbroomer, was targeted while sitting in his patrol car in front of the Palmdale station.

On Saturday at around 6 p.m., a good Samaritan discovered Clinkunbroomer in medical distress and immediately called for help. The wounded deputy was rushed to Antelope Valley Medical Center but tragically succumbed to his injuries later in the evening.

Reports suggest that Clinkunbroomer was stopped at a red light in his patrol car when he was shot. He was found near the Sierra Highway and East Avenue Q intersection with a gunshot wound to the head.

Speaking at a news conference, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna expressed his deep grief over the loss. He mentioned that both Clinkunbroomer’s father and grandfather had served as deputies, and the young officer had just recently become engaged.

“We are devastated by this senseless act,” Luna said emotionally. “Our hearts go out to his family, and we demand justice for this horrible crime.”

The sheriff described the incident as a targeted ambush, expressing his shock and disgust at the motive behind the attack. Luna pleaded with the community to come forward with any information or video footage that could aid in the investigation.

Law enforcement colleagues and prominent officials reacted with outrage and sadness upon hearing the news. They assured the public that every possible resource would be utilized to bring the killer to justice.

Janice Hahn, Chair of the Board of Supervisors, made a statement condemning the attack and offering full support to the deputies. She called for immediate action in apprehending the perpetrator and encouraged anyone with information to contact the LASD Homicide division.

Kathryn Barger, Supervisor representing the Palmdale area, expressed her sorrow and called for swift justice for the fallen deputy. She demanded answers to the unanswered questions surrounding the heinous attack.

During the press conference, Luna revealed that detectives were reviewing video footage from local news reports, which showed a vehicle approaching Clinkunbroomer’s patrol car. However, it remains uncertain whether this vehicle was connected to the incident.

Determined to solve the case, Luna pleaded for the community’s cooperation, emphasizing that someone out there possesses crucial information that could aid in the investigation.

If you witnessed anything related to the shooting in the Sierra Highway area on Saturday around 6 p.m., please contact the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Clinkunbroomer had been a dedicated member of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for eight years and had been stationed at Palmdale since July 2018. He served as a field training officer, a role reserved for the most exceptional deputies.

Last week, Clinkunbroomer’s mother had joyfully announced his engagement on Instagram, adding to the devastation that followed his untimely death.

The fallen deputy’s body was solemnly transported to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office during a poignant procession led by fellow law enforcement officers.

The Governor and Acting Governor released a statement expressing their condolences and ordering flags at the state Capitol and Capitol Annex Swing Space to be flown at half-staff in honor of Clinkunbroomer.

“Deputy Clinkunbroomer selflessly served his community, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather,” the statement read. “We will forever remember his devotion to community and country.”

Rep. Mike Garcia appeared in a video message, passionately condemning the gunman responsible for the tragedy. He also proposed a bill that would make killing a law enforcement officer a federal felony, carrying a minimum penalty of life in prison and, if possible, the death penalty.

The LASD’s Palmdale station expressed gratitude for the community’s support and announced the cancellation of all upcoming events in order to mourn the loss of their colleague.

Tragically, Clinkunbroomer is the latest addition to a sadly growing list of Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
