Last night, the Palm Springs Police Department conducted a DUI checkpoint, resulting in the arrest of two individuals and the citation of 10 others. The checkpoint, located on East Ramon Road, aimed to promote safe driving habits such as seat belt usage, avoiding distractions, following speed limits, and refraining from impaired driving.
The location of the checkpoint was chosen based on data from impaired driving-related accidents. It is important to note that impaired driving includes not only alcohol but also cannabis products, certain prescription medications, and over-the-counter drugs that can hinder driving abilities.
In an effort to ensure safe travel during the final days of summer, the Palm Springs Police Department will have additional officers on patrol until Labor Day Monday. These officers will be specifically looking for individuals suspected of driving under the influence. This initiative is part of the nationwide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.
Sgt. Kevin Lu of the PSPD emphasized the community’s well-being and urged individuals who plan on drinking to make arrangements for a safe ride home. He emphasized that there is no valid excuse for driving after consuming alcohol or drugs that impair judgment.
If residents observe someone driving impaired, they are urged to call 911 immediately.
