Overtime Ban Dates and Affected Services Revealed

Rail passengers will face continued travel disruptions in the coming months as train drivers have voted to prolong their strike action due to an ongoing pay dispute. In addition, train drivers from 16 rail operators will refuse to work overtime from July 3rd to July 8th, as announced by the union, Aslef.

Mick Whelan, the general secretary of Aslef, expressed the members’ determination: “Once again, our members have decided to actively engage in this prolonged struggle. Train drivers are fed up with their employers and the government failing to negotiate in good faith. They are tired of being scapegoated for the ineffective management of services and the railway industry as a whole.”

Whelan added, “Aslef members, who played a critical role in keeping our country moving during the pandemic, simply seek a fair deal on pay to cope with the rising costs of living imposed by the government.”

National Rail has issued travel advice for passengers during the strike, warning of significant disruptions. Services are likely to be affected and may commence with delays on the day immediately following the strikes. To mitigate the impact, National Rail recommends passengers to:

– Utilize the Journey Planner feature, checking for updates closer to each strike date.
– Refer to the Live Trains page for real-time information on arrivals and departures.
– Plan their journeys in advance and double-check all travel arrangements, especially for those traveling on the first and last trains on strike days.

The overtime ban by Aslef train drivers, which may result in last-minute cancellations, is scheduled for six days, from July 3rd to July 8th.

The level of disruption during the overtime ban will vary among different operators. The affected train companies include Avanti West Coast, Chiltern Railways, Cross Country, East Midlands Railway, Greater Anglia, GWR, GTR Great Northern Thameslink, Island Line, LNER, Northern Trains, Southeastern, Southern, Gatwick Express, South Western Railway main line, SWR depot drivers, TransPennine Express, and West Midlands Trains.
