Amazon, along with over 40 other companies, has made a commitment to hire a total of 250,000 refugees from Ukraine and other nations. This pledge was made at the Tent European Business Summit in Paris, where companies like Marriott International and Microsoft also joined in.

June 19 (UPI) — The Tent Partnership for Refugees organized this event, stating that it represents the largest commitment ever made to help refugees who have been displaced from their homes due to war and disasters. The companies involved have committed to providing job training, employment, and more than 250,000 job opportunities for Ukrainian women and other refugees across Europe.

“Ukrainian refugee women face numerous obstacles when it comes to finding employment, such as language barriers and childcare responsibilities,” said Hamdi Ulukaya, founder and President of the Tent Partnership for Refugees and CEO and founder of Chobani. “Businesses need to do more to reduce these barriers and assist these incredibly strong and talented individuals in entering the workforce. The moment a refugee secures a job is the moment they cease being a refugee.

During the Tent European Business Summit, Hilton, Marriott International, and Teleperformance committed to hiring 13,680 refugees. In addition, leading staffing agencies like Adecco, ManpowerGroup, and Randstad pledged to connect 152,000 refugees with employment opportunities. Amazon has also expressed its commitment to hiring at least 5,000 refugees.

“Adecco has long been dedicated to supporting refugees in need,” said Christophe Catoir, President of Adecco and co-host of the Tent European Business Summit. “Since the start of the conflict in Ukraine, we have assisted over 10,000 refugees in finding work. However, we recognize the increasing need for companies like ours to do more, considering the sobering reality that many are expected to remain displaced for years to come.”

The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) has reported that over 100 million people have been displaced worldwide due to crises, whether it be war or natural disasters. Furthermore, 80% of these refugees have sought refuge in countries already facing food insecurity.
