Over 30 Acres Scorched as Brush Fires Engulf Jurupa Hills near Golf Course

On Wednesday, two brush fires emerged in the Jurupa Hills area, adjacent to a golf course, and eventually converged into one large fire, scorching approximately 35 acres. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze and prevent any injuries.

The Riverside County Fire Department received reports of the fires around 2 p.m., specifically near the Oak Quarry Golf Club, which is located near Sierra Avenue and Armstrong Road. In response, multiple engine and hand crews from various agencies, including Riverside County, Cal Fire-San Bernardino County, Riverside, Ontario, Rialto, and Pomona, were dispatched to the scene. Fortunately, no homes or structures were at risk.

The fires merged into a single blaze around 2:45 p.m., primarily affecting Riverside County, even though the border of Riverside and San Bernardino counties divided the burn zone. By 3 p.m., both counties’ fire personnel were working together in a unified command.

Firefighters successfully halted the spread of the fire shortly after 4 p.m., and by 6:55 p.m., the flames were reported to be 40% contained. In San Bernardino County, a mandatory evacuation was implemented for properties along Alder Avenue, south of Jurupa Avenue. Additionally, an evacuation warning was in effect for the area northeast of Sierra Avenue, northwest of Armstrong Road, and south of Jurupa Avenue.

To combat the fire, four air tankers and four water-dropping helicopters provided support from Cal Fire. These aircraft made multiple runs on the blaze until approximately 4:30 p.m., when they were no longer needed.

The cause of the fires is currently under investigation by authorities.
