In the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China, Filipino-heritage hurdlers Lauren Hoffman and Robyn Brown demonstrated impressive performances in the women’s 400m hurdles. Their achievements positioned them for the upcoming final race.

Hoffman delivered a remarkable performance, finishing second in her heat with a time of 57.61 seconds. Brown, on the other hand, faced tough competition but managed to secure a spot in the final race with a time of 58.34 seconds, placing fifth among six runners.

Despite her impressive record, Hoffman trailed behind Oluwakemi Adekova of Bahrain, the Asian record holder in the event. Adekova finished first in the heat with a time of 55.17 seconds at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Stadium.

Joining Brown and Hoffman in the final race are Ami Yamamoto from Japan, Adelina Zems from Kazakhstan, Vithya Ramraj from India, and Jiadie Mo from China. These talented athletes will compete for the coveted title on Tuesday.

Unfortunately, Eric Shauwn Cray, the reigning six-time Southeast Asian Games champion in the men’s 400m hurdles, faced disappointment in the qualifying heats. Cray came in fifth place in his heat, clocking in at 50.24 seconds and failing to advance to the final.

The top positions in the qualifying heats were secured by Bassem Hemeida from Qatar, who finished first with a time of 49.44 seconds, and Yasha Palaksha from India, who finished second with a time of 49.61 seconds. Both athletes will move forward to the final race.
