The companies will have until Thanksgiving to come up with a plan to stabilize prices, according to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. If the grocers fail to do so, the government may take additional actions, including implementing tax measures. Trudeau expressed concern over the fact that grocery chains are making record profits while Canadians are struggling to afford food. The heads of Loblaw, Empire Co., Metro, Walmart, and Costco, which make up 80% of Canada’s grocery market, will be responsible for developing the plan.
