Former President Donald Trump revealed on Tuesday that he has received a letter notifying him that he is a subject of investigation by the Justice Department regarding his efforts to overturn the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.
Trump disclosed this information through a post on his acclaimed Truth Social platform, disclosing that he had received the target letter on Sunday evening. It is worth noting that such a letter typically precedes an indictment. In fact, Trump had previously received a similar letter before facing charges in an unrelated investigation concerning the mishandling of classified documents.
Special counsel Jack Smith, who leads the investigation targeting Trump, had no comment on the matter when contacted by the media.
The investigation focuses on a wide range of attempts made by Trump and his allies in an effort to prevent the transfer of power to Democrat Joe Biden.
Currently one of the strongest contenders for the Republican nomination, Trump is scheduled to visit Iowa on Tuesday, where he will be participating in a town hall discussion moderated by Fox News host Sean Hannity.
Meanwhile, in Georgia, prosecutors are independently conducting a separate investigation into Trump’s attempts to reverse election laws in the state. The lead prosecutor in Fulton County has already hinted that charging decisions are expected to be announced within the next few weeks.
In his post, Trump expressed his belief that he has been effectively indicted three times already and anticipates a potential fourth indictment from Atlanta. He emphatically declared, “This witch hunt is entirely focused on election interference and represents a blatant and complete weaponization of law enforcement!”
