State Senator Dave Min received a three-year informal probation sentence on Tuesday for his conviction of misdemeanor drunk driving, according to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office. As part of his sentence, Min is required to enroll in a state-licensed alcohol and drug education program for first-time DUI offenders. This program, which lasts for 30 hours, aims to help participants reflect on their attitudes and behavior, make positive lifestyle changes, and reduce or eliminate the use of alcohol and/or drugs.
No comments were made by Min or his spokesperson regarding the sentencing.
Min, a Democrat from Irvine, was arrested by California Highway Patrol officers in May for suspicion of DUI and having a blood alcohol level above the legal limit. The arrest took place in Sacramento, less than two miles away from the Capitol. Officers initially noticed the vehicle with its headlights off and observed the vehicle run a red light. Upon approaching Min, they detected signs and symptoms of alcohol intoxication.
Following his release from Sacramento County Jail, Min posted an apology on his Facebook page, acknowledging the irresponsibility of his decision to drive. He expressed remorse and took full responsibility for his actions, offering sincere apologies to his family, constituents, and supporters.
In other news, Min is currently running for California’s 47th congressional district seat, aiming to replace Representative Katie Porter. He faces competition from former GOP Assembly leader Scott Baugh, Republican businessman Max Ukropina, and Democratic community organizer Joanna Weiss, who have also raised significant funds for the 2024 race.
Calls for Min to withdraw from the congressional campaign have come from both Republicans and Democrats. The Republican Party of Orange County has urged Min to drop out of the race, while Democrat Harley Rouda has endorsed Weiss and called for Min’s withdrawal. Representative Katie Porter, who previously endorsed Min, has not yet commented on the situation.
