Orange County Register: Key rail line stabilization takes priority as legislators return

Editor’s note: Sacramento Snapshot is a weekly series during the legislative session detailing the work of Orange County’s representatives in the Assembly and Senate, including committee work, bill passages, and more.

The responsibility of advocating for upgrades and protections for the coastal Southern California rail line falls on a small group of state senators, including four who represent Orange County. Last week, these senators gathered to discuss future threats to the Los Angeles – San Diego – San Luis Obispo Rail Corridor (also known as the LOSSAN Corridor) and potential updates to short and long-term stabilization efforts, with a focus on San Clemente.

Sen. Catherine Blakespear, D-Encinitas, the subcommittee chair, expressed concerns about the lack of effective strategic planning for the entire corridor. With multiple owners and operators along the route, it is difficult to determine where investments should be made.
