Orange County Register: Clay Lacy Aviation delivers 1,200-pound aid shipment to victims of Maui fire

Clay Lacy Aviation, in collaboration with Merriman’s Hawaii Restaurants and Community Relief Maui, loaded 1,200 pounds of emergency supplies onto a private jet at Van Nuys Airport. These supplies were destined for wildfire victims on the island of Maui. The relief organization’s Los Angeles-area warehouse provided blankets, water, diapers, shampoo, and other supplies, while Clay Lacy made direct donations.

Manuel Hernandez, Clay Lacy’s flight support manager, stated that they included 1,000 to-go meal containers in the shipment. Merriman’s is providing meals to wildfire victims, but they needed additional containers. The Embraer Legacy 600 jet departed Van Nuys Airport at noon and was scheduled to arrive in Maui around 5 p.m. Pacific time.

Hawaii officials spent the day identifying the 99 confirmed victims of the wildfire that devastated the island community and wiped out the historic town of Lahaina. The cause of the blaze is under investigation, and authorities have warned about potential toxic byproducts in the drinking water.

Despite the devastation, many survivors have found temporary shelter in hotel rooms, and donations of food, ice, water, and other essentials continue to pour in. The local community, as well as people from around the country and the world, have shown overwhelming generosity.

Maui United Way spokesperson Lisa Grove expressed gratitude for the support received. Grants have been secured to assist with transportation, replacing IDs, providing food, shelter, crisis counseling, and distributing fresh local produce to homeless and displaced residents.

Van Nuys Airport Manager Paul Herrera commended Clay Lacy’s relief effort and highlighted the willingness of businesses to lend a hand during times of disaster. He cited the example of businesses stepping up to help during the 1994 Northridge Earthquake.
