Orange County Man Admits to Involvement in Home Theft Scheme

A 67-year-old man from Long Beach has admitted guilt in a home theft scheme in Orange County that resulted in approximately $2 million in losses. Raymond Edward Jirak, who is set to be sentenced on October 24, pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy, possession of a forged driver’s license, and forgery. The plea deal included the dismissal of multiple other felony counts and sentencing enhancements for aggravated white collar crime exceeding $500,000.

In February, Jirak’s co-defendant, Andrew Stephan Hutchings, 64, from Long Beach, pleaded not guilty to 35 felony charges related to the scheme, including conspiracy, grand theft, attempted grand theft, forgery, and possession of a forged driver’s license. Hutchings is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on September 7 in the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana.

According to the criminal complaint, Hutchings allegedly posed as a homeowner to sell a property on 1634 W. Orangewood Ave. in Anaheim. Both Jirak and Hutchings were accused of forging the victim’s signature on a purchase agreement for the residence. They also placed orders for gold eagle coins from various vendors.

The complaint also stated that the same conspiracy was attempted for a property on 20072 E. Frank Lane in Orange. In total, four homes were allegedly stolen in the scheme. The properties involved were estimated to be worth $415,000, $600,000, $325,000, and $700,000.
