Ongoing actors’ strike prompts Nicolas Cage to opt out of Montreal’s Fantasia Festival

A Montreal film festival recently announced that Nicolas Cage would not attend the event due to the ongoing Hollywood actors’ strike.

Cage was originally scheduled to receive the career achievement award at the Fantasia International Film Festival, an event that showcases genre cinema such as horror and science fiction.

However, Cage’s latest film, Sympathy for the Devil, will still premiere at the festival on Saturday, but the actor will not be present.

The strike, initiated by the performers union SAG-AFTRA, started last Friday and prohibits members from promoting studio films.

In a statement on its website, Fantasia expressed its support for the actors and the striking Writers Guild of America, and hopes for a fair resolution soon.
