Officials Report Metro A Line Service Disrupted Due to Power Outage

A power outage incident occurred on the Metro train system in downtown Los Angeles, causing a brief disruption for dozens of passengers trapped in a disabled train within a subway tunnel on Tuesday. As a result, rail services experienced delays in the area throughout the evening.

The issue was reported at approximately 9:30 a.m. by Jose Ubaldo from Metro.

The Los Angeles Fire Department promptly arrived at the scene to assist in evacuating 47 individuals who were stuck in the tunnel north of the Seventh Street/Metro Center Station. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.

The cause of the power outage remains unclear, but it disrupted the operations of the A (Blue) and E (Expo) lines, which rely on the Regional Connector tracks in downtown Los Angeles.

Metro reported that the power failure occurred between the Pico and Historic Broadway stations. Initially, buses were deployed to transport passengers between the affected stations.

As evening approached, Metro informed the public that repairs were still ongoing for the overhead power line system between the Seventh Street/Metro Center and Grand Avenue/Bunker Hill stations, resulting in further delays in the area.

Metro spokesperson Jose Ubaldo explained that trains on the A and E lines were operating under “single-tracking” conditions through downtown, meaning they had to share a single track to navigate the affected area, resulting in a reduced frequency of approximately 20 minutes between trains.

At 10:36 p.m., Metro announced that the A Line would continue to operate with single-track train service between the 7th St/Metro and Little Tokyo/Arts District stations on Wednesday while maintenance crews repair the overhead power lines for the A and E light rail trains.
