In a disturbing incident in New York City, a gunman went on a two-hour shooting spree, randomly targeting innocent people. The New York Times reports that an 87-year-old man lost his life, while three others sustained injuries in the shootings that occurred in Queens and Brooklyn. Police have apprehended a 25-year-old suspect, but the motive behind these attacks remains unknown. Joseph Kenny, the assistant chief in the NYPD’s Detective Bureau, stated that the shootings appear to be completely random. The first shooting occurred in Brooklyn at around 11:10 am, injuring a 21-year-old in the shoulder. Less than 20 minutes later, the shooter struck again in Queens, fatally shooting the 87-year-old victim in the back.
The gunman continued his spree and wounded a 44-year-old man in the face and a 63-year-old man in the torso in separate incidents in Queens. All three injured victims are currently receiving medical treatment. During the rampage, the shooter also fired at a crowd outside a shop in Queens, fortunately without hitting anyone. Finally, after two hours since the first attack, the police managed to stop the scooter, arrest the driver, and seize a 9mm handgun. As of now, the suspect’s identity has not been disclosed.
In Los Angeles: Meanwhile, across the country, police had to deal with a similar situation involving a random shooter. The Associated Press reports that a 25-year-old man was taken into custody for shooting at people from his vehicle in East Los Angeles and Boyle Heights.
