A man from New South Wales (NSW) is facing over 100 fraud charges, accused of submitting false claims for financial relief schemes implemented to aid people during the COVID-19 pandemic and natural disasters.

On Monday, NSW Police arrested a 31-year-old man at Silverwater jail and charged him with 118 offenses, including obtaining financial advantage through deception and handling proceeds of crime recklessly.

According to the police, the man allegedly used his own name and various stolen identities to apply for government grants, claiming $47,020 in Covid-19 relief grants in September 2021.

He was denied bail and is scheduled to appear at Blacktown Local Court on Tuesday.
